VestryOverseeing and energizing the life of the parish
St. Mary’s vestry consists of 12 members who are democratically elected from the congregation to operate as the parish's Board of Directors and manage its affairs. As liaisons to various groups and programs within the parish, members must understand and share the issues of the group, advocate on their behalf and keep the vestry apprised of progress and impediments.
Vestry members also:
- Act as agents and legal representatives of the parish in all matters concerning corporate properties and the relations of the parish to its clergy;
- Ensure that standard business methods, as outlined in the canons of the church, are observed;
- See that worship continues when a parish is without a rector, and to call a new rector
- Nominate persons for holy orders and other offices as appropriate.
Vestry meetings occur on the third Thursday of every month at 7:00 PM (spring/summer 2013) [or third Wednesday (fall 2013)] and incorporate spiritual reflection, Bible study and often worship. The meetings are open, and an agenda can be obtained by calling the parish administrator. The vestry encourages interested individuals to join this group to observe, offer comment and bring new ideas to the governance of St. Mary’s.
