Children's Ministry at St. Mary's

St. Mary’s offers a vibrant Children, Youth, and Family Ministry with Sunday Formation classes for K–8 students, a Youth Choir, and regular youth group gatherings. Families can also enjoy fellowship events and participate in monthly community service projects that reflect Christian values in action.

On Sunday mornings, students K-8 meet for about 25 minutes during the 10:30 service* and return to worship in time for the Eucharist. Most Sundays, they split into a K-3 class and a 4-8 class, occasionally combining for intergenerational learning. Even though they meet separately, they often study the same scripture or Bible story for that day, but the separation allows for students to learn in a developmentally-appropriate way.

  • A typical class:
  •     Opening Discussion Question
  •     Reading the Story
  •     Discussing and Asking Questions
  •     An Activity or Game
  •     Closing Prayer
St. Mary’s Youth Choir is open to all young singers in grades K-8. We meet weekly from 9:45am-10:15am during the Program Year, and perform about 4 times a year.
In addition to our time together on Sunday mornings, St. Mary’s hosts various events specifically for families to connect with one another. Events we have held in the past include a Trunk or Treat, a Summer pool party, indoor rock climbing, and a movie night to name a few.
Community Service is a vital component of Christian education. At St. Mary’s, we commit to an average of one service opportunity per month in the Program Year(September through early June). Some service projects we have participated in include hosting food drives for the Ardmore Food Pantry, sorting donations at Cradles 2 Crayons, writing holiday cards welcoming immigrants, and more.
Youth group is open to middle and high school students and meets regularly during the Program Year. Students read and discuss the Bible and how to apply it to their lives, as well as play various games and activities. Stay tuned for more details on the ‘25-’26 Program Year.
About 3-4 times in the Program Year, we meet for one Sunday service at 10:30am for an “All Ages Service.” The All Ages message is given by our Minister for Children, Youth, and Families, and is catered specifically to those aged 12 and under. Additionally, we may hear selections from our Youth Choir and Liturgies written by the children and youth in our Parish.
During the Program Year, 3 adult volunteers are needed to make Sunday Formation happen. Each of the 2 classrooms must have a Classroom Leader and a Classroom Aide. Any adult with the appropriate background clearances can volunteer as an aide and does not need to prepare anything beforehand. If you’d like to be trained for the Classroom Leader role, please contact Michelle.
